The mum of brothers Kevin, Graham and Wayne Rohrlach would look out the kitchen window and be rewarded with a view over her favourite block of vines, so the boys named that special section of the vineyard “Mum’s Block.” When it came time to first making a wine that honoured her, of course the fruit for that original wine could be sourced from only one area – Mum’s Block.

Nose: A complex bouquet of dark chocolate and ripe black plums. Slightly charry and vanillin oak characters add further depth to the underlying hints of bramble and black berry.
Palate: It is full bodied and firm with strong fruit characters of plum, earthy spice and chocolate. Complex with a sweet and sour savoury finish supported by robust tannins and a lengthy persistene and tenacity.

So how does a winemaker continue what is one of the Barossa Valley’s enduring legacies? By adhering to the basics – using only the very best Barossa Valley fruit. Richard realises that Mum’s Block is a wine that carries a lot of history in every glass, simply because the Rohrlach family have been in the Valley for generations, even being named Barossa Vignerons of the Year in 2003.
