October Tribute Case Tasting Notes

Honour Roll
  • Jim Barry JB Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Legendary Clare Valley winery Jim Barry is renowned for producing powerful, age-worthy reds, such as this stunning Cab Sav. Serving up pristine blackcurrant and plum flavours with subtle mineral hints, it’s softened nicely with age and is an absolute pleasure to drink. Serve with juicy wagyu beef burgers.

  • Briar Ridge Coonawarra Cabernet Merlot 2017

This serves up classic Coonawarra characters of blackcurrants and plums with underlying leafy hints, while the textural, elegant palate has sweet fruit flavours and smooth, balanced tannins. The fleshy Merlot fills out the leaner fruit profile of the Cabernet Sauvignon, creating a seamless blend. Try lamb cutlets.

  • Hutt River Clare Valley Shiraz 2019

Some of the Clare Valley’s best vineyards have been shaped by the Hutt River, which flows gently through the valley. This Shiraz is a wonderful example of the richness and vibrancy that the Clare Valley offers. Showing complex red and black fruit flavours with a firm tannin structure, it’ll sing with lamb backstraps.

  • Black Wattle Mt Benson Merlot 2017

A wonderfully complex Merlot from the renowned red soils of Mt Benson on South Australia’s Limestone Coast. Concentrated spice and fruit aromas of Satsuma plum and cherry with a touch of integrated French oak. The beautifully proportioned palate has fine tannins and acidity to close. Enjoy with hard cheeses.

  • Mum’s Block Barossa Shiraz 2019

Complex flavours of dark chocolate and ripe black plums with charry vanillin oak characters in support. The palate is full bodied with robust tannins that bode well for cellaring. This wine is normally only available to Mum’s Block Wine Reservation customers, which makes this a rare treat. It’s terrific with T-bone steak.

  • Stonyfell Black Label Langhorne Creek Shiraz Cabernet 2019

The nose serves up dark berry fruits with hints of plums and blackcurrant, while choc mint characters add another further complexity. The round, seamless palate is awash with fleshy dark berry fruits and savoury, fine-grained velvety tannins. Enjoy with barbecued lamb shoulder.
