Roast chicken, steamed seafood.
2 and 3 year old French oak hogsheads
Mid gold with green hues
Lifted melon and peach fruit with hints of nutty, slightly savoury oak. Some ruby red grapefruit characters are also evident, a trademark Padthaway trait.
There's great balance on the palate, with fresh tangy tropical fruit and zesty grapefruit notes. A soft, clean and full bodied white. Gentle oak tannins give a subtle grip and length to the finish.
Originally called Keppoch, Padthaway, about 100 kilometres north of Coonawarra, was first identified as a viticultural region in 1963 by Seppelt, on the basis of a study carried out by CSIRO and the South Australian Department of Agriculture. Today it stands alone as one of SA's premier white wine regions, and is notable especially for its full-flavoured Chardonnays. Tolley's example displays all the crisp elegance of cool-grown grapes, along with full, rich flavours of a top shelf Chardonnay. There's just a light touch of creamy, nutty oak, which complements the luscious fruit. The elegance and finesse of a fine wine is clearly evident in its beautifully balanced structure and smooth texture.
