Chardonnay is Australia’s top white wine, comprising almost half of the total white wine production. An easier varietal to grow than most, it is found across Australia from Eden Valley, Limestone Coast, Tumbarumba, Orange, and Margaret River. Chardonnay is often the favourite grape of many winemakers as it is very impressionable. The grape easily takes on the characters of whatever winemaking technique is used during its production. Typical Australian Chardonnay flavours include melon, peach, stone fruit and citrus. However, Chardonnay's impressionability allows winemakers to experiment with minimal oak use and malolactic fermentation. Allowing winemakers to put their mark on the resulting wine.
