The story of Amberton typifies the adventurous spirit that helped found the Australian wine industry. In 1975 a group of wine-loving doctors who frequented a French restaurant at Sydney's Bondi Beach decided to make their own wine. In the spring of that year they planted a vineyard outside the small NSW town of Mudgee. An experimental vintage was produced in 1978, and the following year, the first commercial vintage was released. In the '90s Amberton moved production to a state-of-the-art winery in the heart of South Australia's Barossa Valley, focussing on premium wines sourced from various premium vineyards across South Eastern Australia.
