Nectarine, strawberry and guava characters on the palate. The acidity is fine and long, providing a crisp finish.
Background
Despite some nail-biting brushes with frost, 2019 turned out to be an excellent vintage and produced arguably the best wines from the area since 2004. There were cool early season conditions followed by hot weather in January and February. This had marginal impact on our vineyard and by the time ripening was well underway in March, conditions had cooled considerably. This led to one of the longest ripening seasons for many years and the last fruit was harvested in May. The long 'hang time' led to fruit of great flavour and balance. Chardonnay, Viognier and Pinot Gris were all very good. The grapes were harvested in the cool of the night before being de-stemmed, crushed and chilled to 5 degrees. The juice spent 3 days cold soaking on skins before being pressed off and inoculated with an aromatic yeast for ferment. Following fermentation the wine spent 4 months on lees to build texture before being racked off and prepared for bottling.
