This top-class wine offers more than its elegance. It gives the chance to collaborate with a dream: the improvement of the living conditions of children in underdeveloped countries. Fundacion Maga is Muriel Wine's charity, and gets its finding from the wine's sales. So Far, Fundacion Maga has done schools and shelters in Cambodia and Sierra Leone. From selected vines located in some of the best plots of Elciego (Rioja Alavesa), the grapes undergo a fermentation and maceration process over a period of 20 days in stainless steel vats. A daily pumping routine allows an optimal extraction of colour and tannins. The ageing process lasts for 14 months and is carried out in 225-litre new French Oak barrels. The wine matures in the bottle for two years prior to its release on the market. After a cold, wet winter Rioja had the warmest April in fifty years before the return of cooler conditions in May and July. Summer turned hot and dry, without any rain between July and October. Before harvest, very cold nights helped the grapes maintain balance in a small crop with yields 30% down. 2011 is an outstanding vintage, characterised by the intensity and richness of the wines.
