In the Australian Wine Companion, critic James Halliday rates Zilzie four stars, commenting that "The wines consistently far exceed expectations, given their prices..." This Shiraz is a prime example. It's soft, rich and smooth and tastes far more expensive than it is!

Parcels of fruit from selected vineyards were fermented for ten days to maximise colour and flavour extraction. After primary fermentation the wines were soft pressed and underwent malolactic fermentation on French and American oak before being blended and filtered prior to bottling. The mild weather conditions during the lead up to harvest together with warm January temperatures were the perfect conditions for optimal flavour development across the white varieties. The odd burst of extreme heat resulted in an early start to vintage but as the harvest progressed these conditions moderated, extending the ripening period for the reds ensuring they too reached maturity with an ideal balance of sugar, acid, colour and flavour.
