Rich deep garnet red with attractive purple hues.
Lifted dark berry fruit complexed by integrated vanillin and spicy coffee oak.
Rich intense but velvety soft palate and a tannin structure that is atypical Barossa Valley.
A number of my mates in the Barossa make outstanding Shiraz wines in the traditionally rich, intense, big robust style. I wanted to do something a little different as I wanted to make a more "friendly" style when the wine was young" I suppose I wanted to "Hunterise" Barossa Valley Shiraz. How we achieve this is by using a smail percentage of Viognier grapes, harvested at the same time as the Shiraz, and co fermented. The percentage of Viognier varies each year dependent on the seasonal conditions but it ranges between 2-5oo. The use of the Viognier grapes lengthens the palate of the Shiraz and decreases the firrnness of the tannins while lifting the fruit on the nose. The resulting wine is more Rhone in style and is quite spicy, soft, velvety, with obvious but restrained tannins. A lovely drink.
