Shiraz is the most successful grape variety for this leading region, with this being the birthplace of the famous Penfolds Grange. The style is full blooded - dark in colour, rich in dark red fruits with a touch of chocolate and a hint of raisin character. The structure is round and velvety, and the wines are invariably long lived.

Background

Bob McLean was a firm believer in the compatibility of Shiraz and the Barossa Valley, also in its ability to produce a variety of styles. He personally could not understand why it was not a focus of more major producers!
