"The Black Wattle vineyards are now mature, and the combination of the cool climate of the Mount Benson and the good vintage has given the winemaking team a dream start, which has been gratefully accepted. Blackberry, plum, anise and spice are framed by supple tannins and a well judged touch of oak." 95 points, James Halliday Wine Companion, September 2016.

Very intense, deep red with purple hues.

Concentrated, ripe plum and blackberry fruit with layers of black pepper and spice, integrated toasty vanillin oak and a very concentrated and complex bouquet.

Mount Benson is a viticultural area situated on the coast of South Australia, 300 km south of Adelaide. The region lies south of the estuary of the Murray River, the Coorong and north of the historic township of Robe. It is comprised of rolling hills of red sandy loam soil over a free draining limestone base - known as 'terra rossa' soil - the very same as in Coonawarra. Long sunshine hours and summer temperatures are tempered by cooling sea breezes due to the proximity to the Great Southern Ocean which favours viticulture in this area. The moderate climate factors together with the special soil are the essential elements for premium grape growing.
