Nose

Red berry and spicy complexity fills the nose. The delicate cherry and plum fruit is well integrated with aromatic spices and toasted French oak.

Palate

Plum flavours carry to the palate where the fruit gives way to complexity and texture. Positive tannin structure ensures a degree of longevity. A fine acid backbone provides length of flavour and persistence.

Background

Harvested by hand and crafted in small batches, our aim is to make absolutely delicious wine under a philosophy of minimal intervention and sustainable methods. Our eight hectare vineyard was planted in 2000 and sits in ancient volcanic soils in the foothills of Mount Canobolas, 950 metres above sea level - exposed to the cool climate and unique topography of the Orange Wine Region. The high country of Orange delivered a very promising vintage in 2017. Spring-time vine and berry development was slow with even budburst and excellent flowering. Warm weather in January and February resulted in harvest starting for white varieties on 3 March 2017. Our location on the north slopes of Mount Canobolas provided protection against heavy Autumn rainfall allowing for the majority of harvest to be completed towards the end of March. Our Pinot Noir is from the vineyard's northern blocks. The fruit was hand harvested and hand sorted on 14 March 2017. A blend of MV6, 114, 115 and 777 clones. Warm fermented for 10 days on skins with 60% whole berry inclusion. Hand plunged during the week-long fermentation. Pressed to French oak puncheons and barriques (20% new) to complete malolactic fermentation and a further 9 months maturation. Bottled on 2 February 2018 with minimal filtration.
