The palate shows a sweet middle and good tight tannins to finish. Medium weight and translucent, it is a refreshingly balanced wine.

Background

The 2016 BC Pinot Noir is the third special release of Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir made at the Tapanappa Winery in the Piccadilly Valley by Brian Croser from grapes purchased from chosen growers. The vineyards selected are potential distinguished sites and the growers have managed their vineyards to the exacting standards expected by BC. The 2016 BC Pinot Noir is from three Adelaide Hills vineyards, 35% from an old Lenswood vineyard of mixed clones including MV6 and Dijon clone 115, 33% from a warmer site at Woodside planted with Dijon clone 777 and 32% from a cool Piccadilly Valley vineyard, close planted with Dijon clone 114. The Lenswood, Woodside and Piccadilly Valley grapes were hand harvested in early to mid March after a growing season that was the warmest on record in the cool climate Adelaide Hills. Despite the warmth there were no heat waves. The crushed and de-stemmed grapes were chilled to 0.9 tonne tubs and allowed to cold macerate before a daily hand plunging of the fermenting must. The fermented wine was drained and pressed straight to French oak barriques (30% new) and allowed to go through malo-lactic fermentation on full lees in barrique. The wine was clear racked after 10 months in barrique and was bottled in February 2017.
