Background

Our coastal location produces elegant, fragrant, medium-bodied wines with taut, firm acidty and expressive fruit flavours. It was a season characterised by a dry winter and mild summer with the rare combination of background humidity and extended veraison - all signs of a healthy vintage. Weather conditions remained favourable over the lead up and the early weeks of harvest with warmer weather and minimal rainfall - ideal for veraison and grape development. A refreshing summer rain and cool finish to the season with fresh mornings and mild evenings has resulted in fruit high in natural acid, deep in colour and flavour well ahead of sugar ripeness. We think its a ripper! The core of this wine comes from a vineyard located in the Fleurieu Peninsula, just above the river mouth north of Goolwa. Tis cool, southerly exposure ensures we get full varietal flavour, with great acidity. This Nero d'Avola is grown with the utmost of care and picked early by a grower who understands our obsessive insistence on perfectly ripe, healthy grapes, low yields and harvesting at precisely the right time.
