The Montepulciano is a great match for red meats, such as a juicy scotch fillet or traditional Italian ossobuco.
Very deep coloured wine, with vibrant purple hues.
On the nose it is dark, brooding and youthful, with notes of blackberry, anise and a slight touch of mocha.
On the palate, the wine is supple and full-bodied, with generous fruit weight and flavour complemented by a rustic tannin profile typical of Italian varieties.
The Bird in Hand signature range is a limited release of premium quality wines created from the best parcels of fruit from every vintage. These wines present the character to age impeccably whilst delivering qualities that can be enjoyed today. The Montepulciano grapes for this wine were harvested from a single vineyard parcel in the northern Adelaide Hills, a warmer site with rocky, well-drained soils perfectly suited for Italian varietals. Destemmed in the vineyard, the grapes were then partially crushed into a small open fermenter, with a percentage of berries left whole. Nine days on skins ensured the ideal colour, flavour and tannin extraction before the Montepulciano was transferred to French oak barrels (20% new) for 16 months prior to blending.
