In 1997, Andrew Nugent planted vineyards and an olive grove on 100 acres on Bird in Hand Road, Woodside. The road itself was named after the "Bird in Hand" gold mine that operated in the district in the 1850s. Four hundred metres above sea level, the vineyards face north and boast deep, well drained red earth, formed from metamorphic rock. Bird in Hand enjoys local and international recognition from lovers of exceptional wine through to wine collectors and judges, including one of our most recent awards: "World's Best Shiraz" for Nest Egg Shiraz 2010. Each accolade is a reflection of the expertise, deliberation, and passion that go into creating each Bird in Hand wine.
