"A surprisingly sweet-fruited example of this notoriously savoury and firm variety; the palate offers an abundance of sweet fruit and accessible and ripe sweet tannins; almost generous to a fault." 90 points, James Halliday Wine Companion, July 2012.

100% Mataro

Enjoy with grilled red meats or Spanish tapas.

100% seasoned French oak for 12 months.

Medium depth crimson with purple hues.

Mulberry and blueberry aromas jump out of the glass with lovely milk chocolate and a hint of white pepper.

Yummy sweet fruit is the first impression, but this quickly changes to what Mataro is known for, pepper and spice. Medium bodied but very complex with very fine yet firm tannins, savoury notes and a little mineral streak which flows through the long and spicy finish.

Hiding under the Mourvédre alias, Mataro has too often been relegated to the rank of a 'blends only' varietal. The time for a Resurrection is now. Driven by the new generation of Barossa winemakers, Mataro is once again taking its place as a single varietal of regional significance. Having utilized Mataro for over a decade as a great blending varietal, we have come to appreciate it in its own right. With vibrant colour, spicy nose, blackcurrant characters and subtle earthiness, this wine takes its rightful place as a single varietal of note.
