This classic blend contains roughly equal proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Wine batches were kept separate and fermented in static red fermenters then pressed and put through malolactic fermentation. The resultant wines were matured on oak before final selection of the batches most suitable for the blend. The Deakin Estate range is named in honour of Alfred Deakin, three-times Prime Minister of Australia. In his early political days Deakin had a grand plan to irrigate the dusty plains of Mildura, utilising the huge volume of water offered by the Murray River. The results of Deakin's foresight are the thriving township of Mildura, and of course, the region's vibrant wine industry.
