Montepulciano hails from southern Italy but has found a second home here in Australia. This particular drop had 10 days on skins late in the season fermented at 20-22 degrees Celcius plunged twice daily. Although vintage conditions were warm and dry, this Monty is bulletproof offering rich fruit characters, long finish and a touch of tannins.

Grown on an organic vineyard in Barmera, these grapes thrive in the hot Riverland climate. Wine writer Max Allen describes Riverland Lagrein as a square peg in a round hole - growing so well having originated in the Italian Alps. Almost black in colour with black tea aroma, dark fruits and spicy French oak, this mighty red is not for the faint-hearted.
