White Wine of the Year — the Winner

After a year of tasting & appraising wines, our Tasting Panel have selected one white wine, as their top pick for 2015.

White Wine of the Year – Hawkesbridge Marlborough

After a rigorous year-long search in 2015, our Tasting Panel selected the year’s very best white wine from a field of hundreds.

Hawkesbridge Reserve Black Label Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2015

The Tasting Panel was impressed by this unique and pure expression of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Its combination of intense fruit flavours, subtle mineral hints and perfect crispness and balance make it a wine that really stands out from the crowd. A worthy winner for the top white of 2015.

With lifted aromas of sweet gooseberry fruit, lemon and passionfruit this is instantly recognisable as a top-shelf Marlborough Sav Blanc. The palate is fresh, lively and crisp with great intensity of flavour. The fresh, bracing acidity runs the length of the palate and lasts well into the aftertaste. Sally Blackwell – Hawkesbridge Winemaker:

“I like to make different wines that make people think, share (preferably with a meal) and remember.”

In just over 40 years, Marlborough’s intensely powerful, passionfruit and citrus flavoured Sauvignon Blancs have captured the hearts and minds of wine lovers everywhere. The key to Marlborough’s success is a unique combination of long days, cool nights, abundant  clear sunshine, a pristine natural environment and free-draining stony soils. Together, these characters combine to produce an utterly unique expression of Sauvignon Blanc, and this Reserve release from Hawkesbridge is up there with the region’s best.
