Awards: 1 Bronze, Top red in this class was the Vasarelli Sangiovese 2010: a cheeky, sassy, bright red of overt varietal character, perfect for drinking in its youth. I really loved the audacity of this naughtiness. Pasta! Philip White Currency Creek Wine Show. 92 points by James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2013.
Region: Currency Creek, South Australia.
Drink Until: 2013
Varieties: Sangiovese
Alcohol: 13.5%
Foods: Italian sausage ravioli with cherry tomato sauce.
Oak: Old American oak.
Colour: Deep crimson.
Nose: Lifted aromas of dark cherry, complexed by earthy and savoury characters.
Palate: Medium bodied, dry red wine showing an irresistible combination of earthy, savoury characters with underlying dark cherry flavours balanced by grainy tannins.

Background:

The climate in the Currency Creek region is slightly warmer than that of Langhorne Creek and on a par with that of Margaret River. It has a strong maritime climate due to the proximity of Lake Alexandrina and the Southern Ocean, thus avoiding extremes of cold or heat. There has been only one September day of frost experienced in the past 40 years and no hail or fog. Excellent ground water is readily accessible through bores, and there are no restrictions on its use.
