Background:

The term 'Meritage' is used to describe a blend of grape varieties made in the style of the Medoc in France using only Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec or Petite Verdot, with the addition, in Australia anyway, of our national workhorse red, Shiraz. Langhorne Creek, 40 kilometres South East of Adelaide is one of Australia's most unique viticultural regions. Producing top quality fruit which is an integral part of the many famous blends from companies such as Wolf Blass, Penfolds and Stonyfel Metala. However it was the Bleasdale Winery, established in 1850, which pioneered this marvellous district. It remains there today - Australia's second oldest family owned winery.
