Background:

It's hard to imagine an enterprise such as Rothbury coming about in any region other than the Hunter Valley. Its history is littered with the dreams of winemakers, both dashed and fulfilled. Parochial passions run high, and justifiably so. Although the see sawing fortunes of a Hunter vintage can break a winemaker's heart, without question the wines of the great years stand shoulder to shoulder with the finest in the world. Rothbury Estate Black Label wines are produced exclusively from Hunter Valley fruit, hand-crafted by our winemakers and chosen by our Selection Committee. Established in 1971, the Rothbury Estate provides a vibrant forum for wine lovers to share their interests in Rothbury, the Hunter Valley and fine Australian wine in general.This is the wine style (along with Shiraz) that put Hunter Valley on the world wine map. And rightly so. Nowhere else makes unoaked Semillon with such great potential to develop with extended cellaring. The low alcohol (11.5%) and crisp acidity give the structure needed for a long life in the cellar. Of course, you can still enjoy it young, when the crisp, featherlight flavours provide the perfect backdrop to grilled seafood or fresh salads. The flavours profile of fresh citrus, straw and lanolin will give way with time to honeyed, grilled nut notes, yet retaining the trademark acidity and structure.
