Background:

It's hard to imagine an enterprise such as Rothbury coming about in any region other than the Hunter Valley. Its history is littered with the dreams of winemakers, both dashed and fulfilled. Parochial passions run high, and justifiably so. Although the see sawing fortunes of a Hunter vintage can break a winemaker's heart, without question the wines of the great years stand shoulder to shoulder with the finest in the world. Rothbury Estate Black Label wines are produced exclusively from Hunter Valley fruit, hand-crafted by our winemakers, chosen by our Selection Committee and then bottled on the Estate. The Verdelho grape originated in Portugal, where it's used to make fortified wines. It thrives in the warm, humid Hunter climate to create table wines with beautiful fruit flavours and a good balance of crispness. This one's a fine example of the classic Hunter style. Pale straw in colour, the nose is all lifted tropical fruit with delicious pineapple aromas at the fore. The palate is generous in flavour, with rich fruit character showing through and has a pleasingly crisp, dry finish.
