Background:

Mildara is one of the most historic and memorable names in Australian winemaking history dating back 118 years to 1888 when pioneering winemaker W.B. Chaffey founded a winery in Victoria's Murray Darling region under the name of Chteau Mildura. In 1933, legendary Australian wine visionary Ron Haselgrove became Managing Director. Haselgrove recognised the potential of the Coonawarra region and put Mildara on the map with a succession of award-winning, long-lived Coonawarra wines; none more famous than the legendary 1963 Mildara Cabernet Sauvignon - the Jimmy Watson trophy winner nick-named 'Peppermint Pattie' and lauded by wine industry doyen James Halliday as one of Australia's most famous red wines.
