The wine regions of Victoria

The state of Victoria has always played an integral role in Australian winemaking, dating back to the golden age of the 1840’s. Even though the state is small in size compared to other wine producing states, it has the most number of wineries of any state, and enjoys a wealth and diversity of wine regions, climates and soils.

This wealth of diversity is reflected in the outstanding variety of wine styles that the state excels in – from the outstanding Pinots of the cool climate Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula and Gippsland regions, to the Shiraz produced in the Grampions and Heathcote areas and the resurgence of fortifieds from the Rutherglen region.

If white wine is more to your fancy, the Mornington Peninsula also produces some outstanding Pinot Gris and Viognier, as well as the ever popular Chardonnay from the Murray Darling region. Victoria produces a diverse wine buffet (and prices to match!) that will delight any wine fan.
