South Australia’s McLaren Vale region is red wine country, no doubt about it. Home to some of Australia’s oldest vines, it produces blockbuster reds that equal the Barossa in intensity and flavour. It is well known for its big, gutsy Shiraz and spicy, supple Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre blends, but it’s the Cabernet Sauvignons that really show their class. Rich, dark, inky and distinctive, filled with dark berries, forest floor characters and herbal nuances, a McLaren Vale Cabernet is a magical experience. The magic extends overseas as well: McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon is a consistent award-winner in prestigious international wine shows.

Look to dishes with big flavours to match the big characters of the wine – osso buco perhaps, or a crown rack of lamb.
