Clare Valley

South Australia’s Clare Valley is undoubtedly one of Australia’s prettiest wine regions. It’s made up of a series of beautiful valleys and small sub-regions, including Auburn, Clare, Polish Hill River, Watervale, and Sevenhill, and many of the quaint buildings are made out of the locally quarried bluestone. It is well known for its big, full-flavoured reds, but it is most famous for its steely, minerally, long-lived Rieslings.

Indeed, the combination of the Riesling grape and the Clare Valley is one of Australia’s classic, time honoured wine styles. Aromatic, fresh and pure with intense lime leaf characters and minerally, nervy, acid backbone, it’s instantly recognisable. Drink a Clare Riesling young and enjoy its pristine citrus lime fruit aromas and flavours, or put it in the cellar and enjoy the smooth, mellow characters of a classic aged Riesling. And for food? It’s a stunning match to seafood and chicken dishes – especially if they’re spicy.
