Barossa Valley

Big, bold
blockbuster Shiraz

Barossa Valley Map
Barossa Valley Snapshots

South Australia’s Barossa Valley is one of Australia’s most famous wine regions. Settled in the mid-1800s by German and English immigrants, the region is made up of 10 distinct sub-regions, and is home to some of Australia’s most iconic wines, including Penfolds Grange.

The Barossa produces many varieties, but Shiraz is definitely the star here. The old Shiraz vines are virtually national treasures and the fruit that comes off them – low in yield and intensely flavoured – is worth its weight in gold. Some examples can sell for up to $300 a bottle! Rich, dark, powerful, and intense, if you love big, bold, blockbuster wines, you simply can’t go past a good Barossa Shiraz. As for food, bigger is better too. Try a big rump steak, or a prime rib roast with all the trimmings
