The beauty of New Zealand’s Marlborough region (its stunning natural beauty aside) is its unique ability to create Sauvignon Blanc wines unlike anywhere else in the world. Part of the reason is due to the way the grapes ripen. Where the sun hits the grapes directly, they ripen with juicy, upfront tropical passionfruit flavours. The grapes that get less sun come off the vine with delicious herbal characters. The combination of intense fruit flavours, bracing acidity, and just the right amount of palate weight and sweetness has made Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc one of the most popular varieties of the new millennium.

As if that’s not enough, New Zealand is also poised with their next big thing: fine-boned, cool-grown, elegant and distinctive Pinot Noir – particularly from the Central Otago region. Their Pinot Noirs are pretty impressive… but whether they can beat our Tassie or Yarra Valley Pinots is another question altogether. Try one for yourself and see!
